I was able to pause the video playback in Plex and the Apowersoft recording continued.

The recording was 720p resolution, and uses H.264/AAC codecs, apparently selected automatically since I didn't see any setting offered for that, although Streaming Video Recorder can convert the format afterwards.

I assume that the video stream isn't actually mp4 format, and Streaming Video Recorder was re-encoding it on-the-fly. While recording there is very high CPU utilization. Apowersoft's documentation suggests that you may be able to play the video while downloading, but that function wasn't selectable in this case (although beside the point since Plex was already playing it). If a recording is stopped early, the resulting mp4 file is playable in some cases, not in others. The way to stop them appearing is to turn off the auto video detector in Streaming Video Recorder by clicking on it. ts files appear to be junk for the purpose of recoding the video. But it appears that you can pause and remove either one, and just continue with the other. After a little experimentation I determined that both the -start and -index files appear to be recording the actual video. They both keep running, and appear to be downloading something bigger, probably the actual video. At the beginning of the list are two streams which seem to be different: one labelled datetimestring-start and one labelled datetimestring-index. They're all relatively small, around 1 Mbyte or less, download completed almost as soon as it starts. Problem #1: There isn't just one "Video Detected", there's a whole bunch of them, a new one every few seconds, all named datetimestring-xx.ts. A little Video Detected window with the url pops up briefly at the lower right of the screen, the url gets added to the Download list in Streaming Video Recorder, and it starts to download as the video is playing. If I have Apowersoft Streaming Video Recorder running, with its auto video detector on, and then I start playing a selection from the LetMeWatchThis channel in a Plex browser window, it immediately detects the video. I tested to see if it can download/record a video streaming from the LetMeWatchThis channel on Plex, and it can. Recording and downloading have never been so easy and convenient. Apowersoft Streaming Video Recorder supports all kinds of streams - including HTTP, RTSP, MMS, MMSU, MMST, and RTMP - and has a built-in video converter which allows you to save your recorded videos in almost any video format.

Then the Get Product link appears and they will send a registration code to your email. Instructions: On their Promotion page you need to click on the link to Share the promotion (e.g., you can share on Facebook and just select the option "Me only" if you don't want to share with anyone else). It can also record a selected screen area if it can't download the video stream directly. It offers a choice of the available download formats if there are multiple formats (like Youtube), or you can convert formats after downloading. It attempts to detect the video url on a web page automatically, or you can give it the video url. It seems to work well on the few sites I tested. I've used their streaming audio recorder for a while, so I gave this video recorder a quick try too.

They even offer some free Java app versions that you can run from their web site without downloading. Possibly it's a historical thing.Īpowersoft offers some pretty good streaming audio and video recording, downloading and conversion programs. I can find no explanation of why they have the same product under two names. The Mac version is called Video Downloader. As far as I can tell, Video Download Capture is identical to Streaming Video Recorder - same UI, same feature list. This thread is about their Streaming Video Recorder or Video Download Capture product.
